Distance and Continuing Education Unit (DCEU) of the University of Ruhuna, previously named External Examination Unit (EEU) established in 1997 with the broader objective of providing higher educational opportunities to prospective students in the region and country who are unable to enter national universities in Sri Lanka. Since its inception, the Distance and Continuing Education Unit has been growing steadily and currently conduct external Degree programmes, specially BA an Diploma and Certificates courses in different disciplines leading skill development, improve entrepneuships and to get competent in the specific fields
රුහුණ විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ දුරස්ථ හා අඛණ්ඩ අධ්‍යාපන ඒකකය (DCEU) මීට පෙර 1997 දී පිහිටුවන ලද බාහිර විභාග ඒකකය (EEU) ලෙස නම් කරන ලද අතර, ජාතික විශ්වවිද්‍යාලවලට ඇතුළු වීමට නොහැකි කලාපයේ සහ රටේ අනාගත සිසුන්ට උසස් අධ්‍යාපන අවස්ථා ලබා දීමේ පුළුල් අරමුණ ඇතිව පිහිටුවන ලදී. ආරම්භයේ සිටම, දුරස්ථ හා අඛණ්ඩ අධ්‍යාපන ඒකකය ක්‍රමයෙන් වර්ධනය වෙමින් පවතින අතර දැනට බාහිර උපාධි පාඨමාලා (ශාස්ත්‍රපති උපාධි පාඨමාලාව) සහ නොයෙකුත් කුසලතා වර්ධනය කිරීමට උපකාරී වන ඩිප්ලෝමා හා සහතිකපත්‍ර පාඨමාලා පවත්වාගෙන යනු ලබයි.
දූරස්ථ හා අඛණ්ඩ අධ්‍යාපන ඒකකයේ අරමුණු
ඉගැන්වීම්, පර්යේෂණ සහ සේවා මගින් සමාජයට සේවය කිරීම පිණිස දැනුම හා කුසලතා වර්ධනය කිරීම.
කාර්යයන්
රුහුණ විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ විවිධ පීඨ විසින් හදුන්වා දෙනු ලබන සහතික පත්‍ර, ඩිප්ලෝමා හා බාහිර උපාධි පාඨමාලා පැවැත්වීම.
ඒ සදහා අධ්‍යයන මණ්ඩල රැස්වීම් හා කළමනාකරණ කමිටුව පැවැත්වීම
ඒ අනුව පහත සදහන් විවිධ කාර්යයන් මෙම අංශය විසින් සිදු කරනු ලබයි.
- පාඨමාලා සහ විභාග සඳහා සිසුන් ලියාපදිංචි කිරීම සහ ඔවුන්ට පහසුකම්/මාර්ගෝපදේශ සැපයීම
- දුරස්ථ ඉගෙනුම් ආකාරයෙන් හෝ/සහ විශ්ව විද්‍යාලය තුළ, අධ්‍යයන දින දර්ශනයට අනුව පාඨමාලා සඳහා දේශන/සම්මන්ත්‍රණ පැවැත්වීමට පහසුකම් සැලසීම
- අධ්‍යයන දින දර්ශනයට අනුව විභාග පැවැත්වීමට කටයුතු කිරීම සහ ප්‍රතිඵල නිකුත් කිරීම.
- විභාග ප්‍රතිඵල නිකුත් කිරීමෙන් පසු විභාග පිළිතුරු පත්‍ර නැවත පරීක්ෂා කිරීම කටයුතු සිදු කිරීම.
- දූරස්ථ හා අඛණ්ඩ අධ්‍යාපන ඒකකයේ, තත්ව ආරක්ෂණ ඒකකයේ යටතේ පාඨමාලාවල ගුණාත්මක බව පවත්වාගෙන යාමට හා වැඩිදි‍යුණු කිරීමට කටයුතු කිරීම.
- දූරස්ථ හා අඛණ්ඩ අධ්‍යාපන ඒකකයේ, පාඨමාලා සඳහා අදාළ මූල්‍ය කටයුතු හැසිරවීම
- දුක්ගැනවිලි කමිටුව, අධ්‍යයන මණ්ඩල සහ කළමණාකරන කමිටුව යනාදිය හරහා සිසුන්ගේ සිසු දුක්ගැනවිලි ඉදිරිපත් කිරීම සාකච්ඡා කිරීම හා විසඳුම් ලබා දීම.
- මාර්ගගත පහසුකම් (LMS/ZOOM) හරහා සිසුන්ට ඉගැන්වීමේ ඉගෙනීමට පහසුකම් සැලසීම

Organizational Structure of The University
The University of Ruhuna operates under the provisions of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 and the Universities (Amendment) Act No. 7 of 1985. Accordingly, the university has a Chancellor, a Vice Chancellor, Officers and Authorities to draw plans, make decisions, and monitor the implementation of such decisions in the overall management.
