Introduction

As we live in a digital age, most industries rely on data and software programs. Computer Science & IT impacts everything, from scientific research to health development, transport, banking, communications, etc. Technology has made the world better, faster, and more connected. Computers and its related applications have been widely in use in the present digital age and there is a rising demand for efficient and learned computer professionals, across all areas. Information Technology has become a central and essential component of virtually every field of human activity – from basic grade-school education to the most advanced scientific achievements, and everything in-between. Hence, a sound knowledge of IT is important for those who wish to reach their highest potential in whichever field they choose.

At present, qualified persons in Office Automation are essential in both the private and government sector organizations in Sri Lanka. The Advanced Certificate Course in Information and Communication Technology is designed to fulfill the above requirement. This is the avenue for those who want to expand their career opportunities and enter the ever-so-difficult job market.

Further, this course helps beginners or even mature students to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals of IT, which would function as a foundation on which they can build their future careers. This Program provides comprehensive knowledge to understand the basics and fundamental concepts of Information and Communication Technology. It is designed to meet the hopes and aspirations of those waiting to be skilled in the use of IT. Complementing the learning already acquired, this program opens the doors to a wide variety of domains in IT. Special emphasis has been placed on both computer Software and Hardware necessary for Office Automation. The objectives of the proposed course are to: enhance basic computer skills, provide proficiency in computer office applications, improve the knowledge of online communication and information searching through the web, understand the principles of creating an effective website, understand the basics of PC Hardware and troubleshooting, learn the concepts of computer basics & programming with particular attention to specific examples, and enhance the career prospects of the school leavers.

FAQS

A student seeking admission to the Advanced Certificate Course shall have the following minimum qualifications:

      General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) examination with ordinary pass for English and Mathematics. or
      General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) examination with ordinary pass for English and Mathematics. or
      Completion of NVQF level 3 in the relevant field acceptable to the Senate. or
      Comparable professional qualifications acceptable to the Senate, University of Ruhuna.

Note: Those who are registered in any University as internal students are also eligible to apply
