About the Course

Students for this degree programme were registered and examined under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science of University of Ruhuna. Onbehalf of the the Faculty, this programme is handle by Distance and continuing Education Unit at the unversity. Therefore, from the bigining of the student life cycle until leaving for the convocation, all task was handle by the DCEU under university rules.

01. Pass GCE (A/L) examination conducted by the Sri Lanka Examination Department with 3 subjects in one attempt

    OR

02. Having obtained one of the following qualifications accepted by the university

  • Pass the final examination of Sri Lanka Law College
  • Intermediate Pracheena Vibagaya
  • Having Trained Teacher Certificate from the Department of Education
  • Pass Final examination of Sri Lanka Library service
  • Pass Final Bauddha Dharmacharya Examination

03. Having completed the following requirements mentioned in the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework

  • Passed the SLQF Level IV.
  • Passed NVQF Level VI.

04.     Any other qualification accepted by the Senate of the University is a basic qualification to apply for the degree course.
A minimum period of 3 years is required to complete B.A (General) Degree.

  • The three academic years are respectively named Level 1000, Level 2000 and Level 3000. Each academic year consists of two (2) semesters of fifteen (15) weeks each.
  • Candidates have 06 academic years to complete his/her degrees

BA external degree programme has been re-structured with effect from 19th batch (2021), and now it is aligned with SLQF-5 incorporating course unit system, credits and semester based academic year with end semester examination along with continuous assessments, and also internships has been made as compulsory at the final year.

Further, ICT and Archeology subject were introduced from new syllabus. As a compulsory requirement student must follow English and IT subjects as core modules along with selected 03 subjects for the degree programme.

Compulsory English course and compulsory Information and Communication Technology course units must be taken as foundation course units by all students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts General (External) degree. Also, this course includes an internship.
